DAP calls for withdrawal of fuel hike

KUALA LUMPUR: Members of DAP called for the Government to withdraw the new fuel prices and electricity tariffs, which they said were "extreme and unjust".

Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai said that the "steep" fuel hike and increased electricity tariffs would cause people from all walks of life to be affected.

"We want the Government to announce that the increase will be halted immediately.

"If they don't, it will be a nightmare. The public anger is already at its peak," he told the press Thursday during a peaceful protest at the Pudu market here.

Tan added that if the increments were not halted, it would lead to "runaway inflation".

He also said that the Government was not "leading by example" when asking the public to have a change of lifestyle.

"What does the Prime Minister mean when he tells people to change their lifestyle? Eat less? Spend less?

"But what about the Government which has always been extravagant? What is the Government doing when it asks the people to tighten their belts?" he asked.

He gave the example of a study trip to Europe and Canada organised by the Federal Territory Ministry, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Putrajaya Corporation, which involves a delegation of 15 high-ranking officers, including FT Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique and KL mayor Datuk Abdul Hakim Borhan.

"When they return on Tuesday, they must explain to the people why the trip had to be made.

"Government officials have made hundreds of trips in the name of studying. So much money has been spent, but where are the improvements?" he said.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok also questioned why Malaysia's fuel prices had to be so high when we are an oil-exporting country.

"We call for the Petronas account to be made public, since it is a government-owned company.

"We want to know the income and expenditures, and how the Government spends the profits," he said.

The peaceful protest started at about 11am, and was dispersed by 12.30pm by the police. No one was arrested.

Other DAP members there were Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, Teluk Intan MP M. Manogaran and Teratai state assemblyman Jenice Lee.

The call for withdrawal of fuel hikes will not work.
Even a simple request to implements the IPCMC and local election was shot down by bn.
The only way is for PR to takes over the federal and try to solve the problems.
It might not be price reductions.
There are other ways to neutralize the fuel prices.
Such as demolish all road tolls , duty free spare parts and lower parking rates .
The government rebate of 625 per private car is all rubbish and is up to abuses.Even a child can think of a way to scam the 625 ringgit.

Dear Fazleena,

I refer to the article you wrote in todays Star (12th June) in Starmetro column,

on the above mentioned matter.

My name is Brian Retna ,from Worldwide Park who also was one of the DBKL tenderers for the supply of the similar type of equipment for Wilayah Persekutuan.

After reading todays article which you've covered , i wish to inquire further on who were the installers and operators who got the job , as we felt that we were cheated in not given the exact information wanted by DBKL.

I also intend to bring this matter up to Pakatan Rakyat , especially DAP which are handling most of the city problems.

Just for your info , you mentioned that DBKL will pay RM1.50 a day for each parking lot, that means according to the contract in the Tender Exercise that covers 30,000 parking lots in the city , it translates into RM 45,000.00 a day or RM 1.35 Million a month or RM 16.2 Million a year. !!!

In your sub column you wrote that..

Quote from Datuk AB Hakim Borhan said "" There is no cost on the part of DBDL but we have an installer and operators for the parking system""

How is that ? It does not makes sense from the above figures, which i believe the Contract period is for 5 years ( 60 months) which works out ??? close to a whopping RM100 Million!!!

Knowing these facts i hope you will pursue the other issue stronly which you mentioned on Datuks "" study trip "" - I certainlly feel the rakyat will want to know why the Federal Territories Ministry , Putrajaya Corporation and DBKL had to use taxpayers money for what purpose instead of he submitting a report to the cabinet! Which Cabinet! when he should be answering to the public !

I know that you're only a reporter which i would like to thank you for covering this topic.

Kindly assist in the follow up and follow thru.,

Your assisstance is much appreciated and i gurantee that this will be a HOT ! topic for you to cover as it involves about 1 million car owners in the city with already having to fork out money in petrol increase and now this!!! DAILY EXPENSES!!

Ubah gaya hidup BN
